1. FIGHT FOR FRANKLIN!
Woodrow Wilcox wants Franklin School to remain open. Woodrow Wilcox was bussed from Franklin to Ready during his sixth grade and he did not like it. Franklin School has an important job of being the school for children on Griffith’s south side. All other elementary and middle schools are in the north half of Griffith. Franklin School benefits the business activity and the property values of the downtown area and homes in the south part of Griffith. Franklin School has historical significance and value for the town, also.
2. FIX THE BUDGET PROBLEM WITHOUT RAISING TAXES!
First, Woodrow Wilcox wants to close the budget gap by increasing revenue without increasing taxes. This could be done by a combination of revenue increasing efforts. Applying for grants would be a good start. Renting public school facilities to non-profit groups for meetings and events would be another effort to raise revenue.
3. TREAT SCHOOL EMPLOYEES FAIRLY!
Woodrow Wilcox is against favoring administrators over other school employees when it comes to insurance and other benefits. Administrators should not get “sweetheart deals”. Woodrow Wilcox’s grandfather C.L. Wilson was a union organizer and the first president of the union local that represented Griffith teachers. C.L. Wilson started the union because he believed that the Griffith school board was treating teachers unfairly then and he wanted to help all the teachers. Woodrow Wilcox wants teachers and other employees treated fairly. Woodrow Wilcox wants to avoid layoffs of any employees at this time.
